The block seminar is planned for Friday 14th January – Saturday 15th January 2022. I aim to hold the event at the Institute for the World Economy (to be confirmed). Students taking part in the Blockseminar will have individual project meetings with me (either at the IfW or via virtual link). In this meeting we will discuss your proposal. These meetings are planned for October to December 2021.
The seminar language is English. (However, students who wish to present in German, are free to do so.) The deadline for submission of the 4,000 (maximum) word essay is Friday 18th March, 2022. The Dissertation must be written in English. (Students are not penalized for spelling/grammatical mistakes.)
The certification for this seminar is the same as that for the lecture, ‘Risk and Entrepreneurship’ i.e. Bachleor students (BWL) need to assign this lecture to ‘Wahlbereich Betriebswirtschaftslehre (Innovation und Management)’

Inhalt
The student gets to explore recent developments in economic topics. Once the course kicks off, students are allowed to choose a study from a list of topics. Wild-card topics are also acceptable – provided they are based on an empirical study from a reputable journal.
Following a 1-to-1 meeting with the supervisor, the student sets a research question, identifies the related literature and makes a 10-minute presentation in English or German.
The aim of this module is to support students in the skill of critical analysis. The student’s presentation skills are also helped – students responding to questions from their fellow students and receiving written feedback from the lecturer.
Lastly, the presentation provided input for the seminar paper, which is graded.
