Succeeding at university requires more than just hard work – it’s about studying smarter, communicating effectively, and managing your academic journey with confidence. This seminar is designed to equip both degree-seeking international and German students with study skills and advanced academic writing skills.
Within the area of study skills, you as a student will explore strategies for active learning, time management, and self-organization to optimize your academic performance. Moreover, you will have the chance to train your presentation skills with the help of different methods and techniques discussed in the seminar. Flexible self-paced online courses will additionally be part of this seminar to deepen your knowledge on these topics.
Effective academic writing skills are also extremely important skills for successful completion of your degree. These rely on a clear line of argumentation, logical coherence, and precise articulation of ideas. Within this seminar we will explore the structural and rhetorical strategies that give academic texts their clarity and persuasiveness. Particular emphasis will be placed on maintaining a strong argumentative thread throughout a text, ensuring that each section contributes meaningfully to the whole.
You will learn effective strategies for structuring research papers, integrating sources with academic integrity, and refining writing style for greater precision and impact. Through text analysis, guided exercises, and peer feedback, participants engage with the writing process as a means of shaping and strengthening their academic voice.
Using a peer-to-peer learning approach, you will actively exchange experiences, strategies, and challenges with other students to develop more effective study habits together. You’ll engage with diverse perspectives, refine your academic skills, and leave with a toolkit designed to boost your university performance and beyond.
